Chiropractic Treatment For Arthritis

Arthritis is a painful condition that affects the joints. It can affect any joint in the body and at any age, though it is usually more prevalent in the older population.

There are two major types of arthritis. The most common type is osteoarthritis, or old age arthritis. In this condition the cartilage of the joint gets worn away from abnormal or excessive motion. The other common type of arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis, which is an auto-immune disease, where the body attacks itself. This is an abnormal immune response which causes swelling and painful movement of the joints, rheumatoid arthritis can affect patients of any age, while osteoarthritis usually affects older persons.

Fortunately, there are ways to prevent, are at least minimize the effects of arthritis on the joints. Your neighborhood chiropractor is the expert in musculoskeletal conditions, including arthritis. The Chiropractic philosophy is: The human body can heal itself of most problems, if it has the proper nutrition and unobstructed neurological communication. Your chiropractor is the recognized expert in joint conditions, and should be your first choice for the treatment of, or more importantly prevention of arthritis.

Most people, including medical doctors, think that osteoarthritis is a normal condition of the aging process. If this were true, then everyone would have it and it would be a bilateral condition. Many people have arthritis in one shoulder or one knee and I have to believe that both shoulders or knees are the same age. The truth is that OA almost always starts with an injury or condition that sets up an abnormal movement pattern of a joint. Years of abnormal joint movement cause abnormal wear and tear on a joint and over time the cartilage is destroyed and the pain of arthritis begins. By mobilizing the joint to restore normal movement to any joint, your chiropractor can prevent OA or prevent any further deterioration of the joint.

Your chiropractor can also treat Rheumatoid arthritis by determining the cause of the auto-immune response and remove that cause. There are many different reasons for an altered immune response such as: allergies, drugs, digestive disorders, nutritional deficiencies, and stress. Your chiropractor is uniquely qualified to determine the cause of your RA and treat you accordingly. In many cases the symptoms can be completely resolved, but in many others the treatment will only minimize the disease process.
